This service supports clients in developing fully compliant and U.S. market-ready labels for food, feed, or beverage products. Our scope includes regulatory review, label design development, and coordination through to final proofing. The process ensures alignment with U.S. labeling regulations (e.g., 21 CFR, 16 CFR, 19 CFR) and customer branding objectives.
SCOPE OF WORK
1. Requirements Gathering and Project Planning
• Collect label dimensions and packaging material specs (e.g., bottle shape, adhesive area)
• Confirm product category and identify applicable U.S. regulations (e.g., 21 CFR, FALCPA, 16 CFR, 19 CFR)
• Define branding objectives and design preferences
• Assign team roles (regulatory contact, designer, reviewer)
• Draft a label development project plan with key milestones
2. Nutrition Facts Label Development
• Request and review formulation data or lab analysis (serving size, nutrients, etc.)
• Determine appropriate serving size and servings per container
• Calculate Daily Values (%DV) using current FDA guidance
• Choose appropriate format style (Standard, Tabular, Linear) per 21 CFR §101.9
• Draft and deliver Nutrition Facts panel (PNG format for use, AI/PDF editable for print)
• Verify font sizes, layout, and placement compliance
3. Label Design and Creative Development
• Develop up to 3 initial label design concepts (color scheme, font, imagery)
• Present concepts with mockups and written rationale
• Coordinate client feedback collection across stakeholders
• Implement up to 3 rounds of revisions based on client direction
• Align designs with label die lines or printer templates
• Finalize layout incorporating all required regulatory content
4. Regulatory Label Review (Primary and Secondary Labels)
• Cross-check ingredients and allergens per FALCPA
• Verify nutrition panel, UPC, business name, address, and lot coding
• Validate net quantity, dual declaration (if applicable), and country of origin
• Review for any voluntary marketing claims (e.g., gluten-free, GMO-free)
• Assess sustainability/environmental claims using 16 CFR §260 (Green Guides)
• Flag any issues requiring reformulation, disclaimer, or legal input
5. Secondary Label and Glass Bottle Label Development (if applicable)
• Adapt label content to secondary or bottle label formats
• Present mockups to ensure fit and visibility
• Apply necessary format revisions (e.g., vertical orientation, wrap-around)
• Confirm all secondary labels reflect the master label content
6. Proofing and Final Approval
• Deliver final digital proofs in print-ready and raw formats (e.g., PDF, PNG, PSD)
• Submit compliance checklist with regulatory references
• Record and summarize revision history
• Assist with final approval sign-off and handoff to printer or manufacturer
